Red Cross incorporated in 2002 for a simple reason: residents wanted to keep the area agricultural and rural as long as they could. The town grew up around the crossroads of NC 24/27 and NC 205, and it has stayed mostly farms and homes on country lots. Public sewer has been talked about for years. When the town looked at a town-center plan, officials noted that county sewer was still years away. For nearly every home in Red Cross, wastewater goes to a septic tank.

Septic tank pumping in Red Cross
A septic system on a farm or a family homeplace can go a long time without anyone thinking about it. Then a drain backs up, usually at the worst moment. Pumping every 3 to 5 years prevents most of that.
What you get when we pump:
- lids found and opened, even if they’re buried
- the tank pumped out completely
- baffles and outlet filter checked
- an honest read on the tank’s condition

Inspections when land and homes change hands
Western Stanly County has drawn new buyers from the Charlotte side. If you’re one of them, the septic system may be new territory. Our inspection takes the guesswork out:
- Find it: probe and sonde locating, so we know exactly where the tank is.
- Check it: tank, baffles, liquid level and drain field area.
- See inside: camera through the lines where needed.
- Report: in writing, the same or next day.
Pumping the tank during the inspection is recommended, not required. Septic inspections
Building, repairs and maintenance
Building a home on a Red Cross lot starts with Stanly County Environmental Health: a soil and site evaluation with backhoe pits, an Improvement Permit (good for five years), then a Construction Authorization before you can get building permits. We install conventional and engineered systems and repair failing ones, including work by other companies. New systems | Repairs
If the county permits a pump or low-pressure system on your site, it will need scheduled operator inspections. We provide subsurface maintenance. Subsurface maintenance

Red Cross FAQ
Is public sewer coming to Red Cross?
Not on any schedule we can point to. Ask the town or Stanly County Utilities for the latest.
We’re putting a second home on family land. Can it share the septic?
Only if the county says so. Environmental Health decides whether the existing system can take the extra flow or the new home needs its own. Call them before you build.
Is there a record of my septic system?
Search Stanly County’s permit records by tax record number. Older homes may have none, and we can locate and inspect the system instead.
