New septic systems around Mount Pleasant

Eastern Cabarrus is a hard place to site a drain field. The county’s Eastern Area Plan rates most of the area’s soils as having severe limitations for septic, and says soil conditions there call for an acre or more per system. Some lots pass for a conventional gravity field; others only work with a pump tank or low-pressure pipe.

Here’s how a new system usually goes:

  1. Soil evaluation. Cabarrus Health Alliance evaluates the site. We can help arrange it.
  2. Permits. You can pull the septic permits yourself, or we can assist.
  3. Lot prep. Land clearing, brush cutting, a gravel driveway for the trucks, and excavator or skid steer work. We do that site work too.
  4. Install and final inspection. We install the system the county approves, conventional or engineered.

Financing is available, and a consultation is a good first step if you’re still choosing a lot. New septic systems | Land clearing and site work

Septic tank pumping

Most households should pump every 3 to 5 years. Waiting longer lets solids wash into the drain field, and that’s what turns a routine visit into a repair. We uncover the lids, pump the tank, check the baffles and report what we saw. Septic tank pumping | Book online

Town sewer or septic?

  • Inside town limits: the Town of Mount Pleasant runs the sewer system. Its ordinance requires buildings in town to connect when a public sewer line is within 100 feet of the property line.
  • Outside town limits: the Town can extend sewer-only service outside its limits with its approval. Most homes out there are on septic.
  • Septic permits and records: Cabarrus Health Alliance, Environmental Health (704-920-1207), through the Accela Citizen Portal. A shed, pool or addition needs an Existing System Approval first.
