Septic Services in Cabarrus County, NC

Cabarrus County looks like suburbs from I-85, but drive east of Concord and the sewer lines thin out fast. The Water and Sewer Authority of Cabarrus County (WSACC) treats wastewater for Concord, Kannapolis, Harrisburg, Mount Pleasant and the county, and each of those systems serves the areas its lines reach. Past them, farms, older homes and new houses on acre lots treat their own wastewater with a septic tank and drain field.

Dahl Septic Services works the county’s unsewered edges, from the eastern farm roads to the outlying parcels around its cities, a short drive from our Albemarle office. We pump, inspect, repair and install septic systems. Licensed and insured, NC license #9407I. Call or text (704) 218-9070.

Towns we serve in Cabarrus County

  • Concord: city sewer in most of the city; septic on outlying parcels and land outside the limits
  • Kannapolis: city sewer in town; septic on older lots and outlying land beyond the lines
  • Harrisburg: almost entirely on town sewer; septic on a small number of older and outlying properties
  • Midland: no town utility; City of Concord sewer only where lines run
  • Mount Pleasant: Town sewer inside the limits; wells and septic across the countryside around it
  • Georgeville: unincorporated farm country in the southeast corner of the county
  • Locust (mostly in Stanly County; a small part is in Cabarrus)

We also take calls from rural communities such as Rimertown, north of Mount Pleasant. If your home has a tank, call with the address.

Why so much of eastern Cabarrus is on septic

The county’s own plans spell it out. The 2003 Eastern Area Plan, written with the Town of Mount Pleasant, says public water and sewer reach most of the land inside Mount Pleasant and the NC 49 and NC 73 corridors toward Concord, and that the rest of the area relies on private wells and septic. The Midland area plan calls the lack of water and sewer the biggest limit on development there.

The ground doesn’t make it easy. Both plans describe soils rated “very limited” or “severe” for septic in much of the area, and the Eastern Area Plan says lots there need an acre or more for a private system. On tight or shallow soil, the county may approve only a pump tank or another engineered design.

Pumping, inspections and repairs

  • Pumping: every 3 to 5 years for most households. We open the lids, pump the tank, check the baffles and tell you what we found. Septic tank pumping
  • Inspections: for buyers, sellers and owners, with a written report. Septic inspections
  • Repairs: lines, pumps, baffles and drain fields, including systems another company installed. Septic repairs
  • Engineered systems: pump tanks and low-pressure pipe fields need regular attention. Dahl Septic Services has a state-certified subsurface operator. Subsurface maintenance

New systems and lot work

A new system in Cabarrus starts with a soil evaluation by Cabarrus Health Alliance. We can help arrange it, and you can pull the permits yourself or let us assist. We also handle the site work a rural lot usually needs: land clearing, brush cutting, gravel driveways, and excavator and skid steer work. New septic systems | Land clearing and site work

How Cabarrus County handles septic

Septic and well permits in Cabarrus County come from the Environmental Health division of Cabarrus Health Alliance (704-920-1207), not the county planning office. Applications go through the Accela Citizen Portal:

  • Soil evaluations for new systems.
  • Septic expansion and repair permits.
  • Existing System Approval before a shed, pool, addition or reconnection to an old system.
  • Records: septic and well records are requested with the Alliance’s online form.

For sewer availability, the county sends you to the nearest city or town. In Midland, that’s the City of Concord.

Cabarrus County septic questions

Who issues septic permits in Cabarrus County?

Cabarrus Health Alliance’s Environmental Health division (704-920-1207). Soil evaluation, repair and Existing System Approval applications are filed online through Accela.

Is my Cabarrus County home on sewer or septic?

If your water bill has no sewer charge, or you’re on a well, you’re most likely on septic. Your city or town utility can confirm sewer availability for your address.

Do you work in Concord, Kannapolis or Harrisburg?

Call or text with the address. Most of those cities are on sewer, but homes outside the lines use septic.

Do I need approval before adding a pool or shed?

Yes. Cabarrus Health Alliance requires an Existing System Approval first.
