Georgeville sits in the southeast corner of Cabarrus County, where Dutch Buffalo Creek meets the Rocky River. It started out as Shinnville, took George Shinn’s name, and had its own post office from 1888 to 1931. The Reed Gold Mine, site of the first documented gold find in the United States, is just to the west, and the Bost Mill Historic District lines NC 200 off US 601.
What Georgeville doesn’t have is a town government or a town sewer system. The homes and farms here are on private wells and septic unless a utility line has been run to them, and that makes it our kind of place. Dahl Septic Services is about 20 miles away in Albemarle. Licensed and insured, NC license #9407I. Call or text (704) 218-9070.
Ground that’s hard on drain fields
The county’s Midland area plan says the Carolina Slate Belt reaches 4 to 5 miles into Cabarrus from the Stanly County line, and Georgeville sits only a few miles from that line. One of the Slate Belt soil complexes the plan maps is even called Badin-Tatum-Georgeville. The plan rates those soils as often “very limited” for septic, because of flooding, wet subsoil and shallow rock. Expect a careful site evaluation, and on some lots a pump tank or low-pressure system.

Cabarrus permits
Septic and well permits come from the Environmental Health division of Cabarrus Health Alliance (704-920-1207). Before a shed, pool or addition goes on a property with septic, the Alliance reviews the existing system. A new well needs its own permit, applied for after the site evaluation.
“Definitely recommend! Do not waste your time calling anyone else. They were so kind, professional, affordable, and reliable. I appreciate the great service!”
