Most of Mecklenburg County is on public sewer. Charlotte Water treats wastewater for Charlotte and the towns around it. But plenty of homes on the county’s edges were built where no sewer line ran, and they still run on a septic tank and drain field. Those are the homes we work for.
Dahl Septic Services is based in Albemarle. We pump and inspect septic systems for Mecklenburg County homeowners, buyers and real estate agents, and we take on repairs, new systems and subsurface maintenance. Call or text (704) 218-9070.

We also take septic calls in Cornelius, Davidson and Pineville for homes that aren’t on sewer.
Stallings straddles the Mecklenburg and Union County line. See the Union County page for the Union side.
Septic tank pumping
Pumping is the regular maintenance every tank needs. Solids settle and build up; if they aren’t pumped out, they get pushed into the drain field, and a clogged field is the repair nobody wants. Most households pump every 3 to 5 years. We uncover the lids, pump the tank, check the baffles and tell you what we saw. More about septic tank pumping or book a pump-out online.
Septic inspections for Mecklenburg County home sales
Buying a house on septic inside a mostly sewered county catches people off guard. Get the system inspected during due diligence. We find the tank with a probe and a sonde locator, run a camera where the lines need a look, and send the written report the same or next day. Pumping during the inspection is a recommended add-on, not a requirement. How our inspections work
Repairs, new systems and subsurface maintenance
We repair lines, baffles, pumps and failing drain fields, including systems someone else installed. Septic repairs | New systems
Engineered systems (low-pressure pipe, drip, pump tanks) need scheduled operator visits. Dahl Septic Services has a state-certified subsurface operator. Subsurface maintenance for engineered systems
How Mecklenburg County handles septic
Septic permits, records and well permits go through Mecklenburg County Public Health, Groundwater and Wastewater Services: 980-314-1680, eh.mecknc.gov/water.
- Online applications. Septic, well and subsurface investigation permits can be applied for online through the county’s Accela portal.
- Permit records. The county publishes septic permit records, which helps when you’ve bought a house and don’t know where the tank is.
- Adding on. Building onto a house with septic needs county sign-off first. Call the office before you draw plans.
- Lot prep. The county has guidance on preparing a lot for an Improvement Permit. Read it before you clear anything.
We can help arrange the soil evaluation and handle the land clearing and brush cutting the lot needs. Homeowners can pull the permits themselves, or we can assist.
If your parcel is near the Union County line, check which county it’s in. Union County parcels go through Union County Environmental Health instead.
